Coming off a 3-1 home win versus the Crew which snapped a three game losing streak, the New England Revolution will now be facing Real Salt Lake. The match at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy Utah will kick off at 10pm et. This will be the only match between the two MLS clubs this regular season.
RSL are win less in their last four league matches and have just one win in the last six. Their previous game resulted in a 2-0 loss on the road to the Whitecaps in a mid-week fixture. This will be RSL’s 3rd game in the previous seven days and will prove to be a real test of not only the depth on the team but also the fitness as temperatures are expected to hit 90 degrees. As if that wasn’t enough, the club will be taking on Italian side Inter on Tuesday on the newer natural grass field of Rio Tinto Stadium.
Goalkeeper Nick Rimando will be looking for his 180th win tonight which would tie him with Kevin Hartman all time. RSL are 103-22-45 at home in their last 170 matches, a very impressive feat. New addition Yura Movsisyan leads the team in scoring with 7 goals, followed by Martinez (6), and Plata (5). So far in 2016 RSL are 8-6-5 with 29pts.
The New England Revolution along with the AT&T Goal of the week winner, Lee Nguyen enter the match 5-7-7 with 22pts. The Rev’s have never won in Rio Tinto but did win the previous match 4-0 on 4/25/2015. The Rev’s will be looking for Gershon Koffie to make his long awaited return from a knee sprain. However, the center mid is on YC watch and is looking at a one game suspension with his next yellow card offense. New DP signing Kouassi remains on the disabled list but is expected to make his debut this season at some point. The all time record for the teams in 18 games has New England with 5 wins and RSL with an edge at 9 wins. Elfath is your man in the middle for tonight’s game.
