The Revolution are taking on the Timbers tonight in Providence Park, Portland OR, at 9pmEST on EPSN2. The Revs are coming off their 1st win while the Timbers are coming off their 1st loss of the still very young 2017 campaign. Four out of the seven matches between the two sides has ended in a draw, with a slight edge going to Portland with 2 wins to New England’s 1.
Portland enter the match with an impressive record of 3-1 (9pts) with a league high twelve goals scored and in is 1st place. The Timbers have wins versus Minnesota, LA, and Houston. However, they did suffer defeat last week in Columbus, falling to the Crew 3-2. Despite conceding six goals, the Timbers still boast the Western Conferences best GD at +6. This mainly due to the fearsome attacking duo of Adi and Valari who have 4 goals each. Portland are also expecting the return of both Nagbe (USA) and Guzman (Costa Rica) from international duty but it’s not all good news for the 2015 MLS Champions. The defense is dealing with some injuries, both Ridgewell and Vytas are nursing injuries and could miss out on the action tonight.
New England might be able to exploit a weakened Portland defense if they can replicate the explosive offensive performance from last weeks 5-2 home victory over Minnesota United. After failing to win in the two first games of 2017 (away at COL and FCD), the Revolution got it done in their home opener, scoring five goal with four different goalscorers. New England enter the match in 9th place on 3pts with just 3 games played (League Table). After missing last weeks match Xavier Kouassi will offer some much needed defensive support if New England is too get a result tonight and limit Valeri’s impact.
