Revolution smash Sounders 5-0 in Foxboro

It was the ‘Mother’s Day Melee’ but one team was just a punching bag really and that team was the Seattle Sounders (SSFC).  The New England Revolution scored a season high five goals, handing the visitors their worst loss in franchise history.  The score line read 4-0 at half time with Fagundez netting his first two goals of the season,  the rookie Patrick Mullins hitting his second of the year in as many matches, and Teal Bunbury also getting in on the action.  Teal would find the net once again early in the 2nd half to make the final score of five to zero.

The win along with a Sporting loss to the Union meant New England stayed in a tie for 1st place in the Eastern Conference.  It also meant that the Revolution were now in the discussion as a true contender for a national championship.  On the other hand, only questions were raised as to the true skill of the losing Seattle club, who remain on top of the league table despite the terrible showing with 22 points overall.  The victory marks the 5th win for the uptick Revolution squad in this relatively young season.  It’s also breaths new life into the “Fortress Foxboro” saying.  The club has now pitched it’s fourth consecutive shutout at home this season, giving New England the best home goal differential in the league by some margin and acting as an anchor of sorts or platform on which coach Jay Heaps wishes to launch a second straight playoff push.  However, with 24 matches still ahead there is yet much to be decided.  Although the current form of the club does have many of it’s followers thinking big at least for now.
